FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
REI to support OMB on USAspending.gov and other OMB supported Websites.
Herndon, VA – May 13, 2008
REI Systems (REI) announced today that it was awarded a contract by GSA to provide support and engineering services for the on-going operation, maintenance, and enhancements of the www.USAspending.gov website. In addition, REI will provide technical support, full life-cycle software development, configuration management, and documentation services to support OMB initiatives. REI will support a 1-year, $2M contract with options to extend the contract to 5-years and a funding ceiling of $10M.
The Transparency Act of 2006 directed OMB to lead the development of a single searchable web-site, accessible by the public free of charge and includes detailed information on all government transactions that exceed $25,000. www.USAspending.gov was launched early on December 13, 2007, before the January 1, 2008, statutory deadline. This site provides a comprehensive source of data and allows users to search by entity name and location, award amount and type, and several other criteria in regards to Federal Transparency. There are additional requirements in the Transparency Act, including sub-grantee and sub-contractor reporting, that OMB must evaluate and determine the feasibility of incorporating this data into USAspending.gov.
OMB's predominant mission is to assist the President in overseeing the preparation of the federal budget and to supervise its administration in Executive Branch agencies. In helping to formulate the President's spending plans, OMB evaluates the effectiveness of agency programs, policies, and procedures, assesses competing funding demands among agencies, and sets funding priorities. OMB ensures that agency reports, rules, testimony, and proposed legislation are consistent with the President's Budget and with Administration policies. In addition, OMB oversees and coordinates the Administration's procurement, financial management, information, and regulatory policies. In each of these areas, OMB's role is to help improve administrative management, to develop better performance measures and coordinating mechanisms, and to reduce any unnecessary burdens on the public.
“The release of www.USAspending.gov was the first step in accomplishing OMB’s goal of providing the public with complete transparency into federal government spending. Timely and accurate loan, grant, and contract data – more than $1 Trillion in federal financial assistance – is now available via a searchable website. Now we must incorporate additional data sets, streamline the data loading process, and implement an architecture that will support the anticipated large volumes of data and website activity seamlessly” says Veer Bhartiya, REI Systems President. “We fully recognize the importance of this initiative to OMB. REI will bring a unique combination of staff with federal financial assistance experience and corporate capability in managing large datasets using intuitive interfaces to support this contract. We stand ready to delivery results to OMB on this and other projects.”
