FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: REI to Support FEMA in Consolidating and Automating all DHS Non-Disaster Grant Programs Herndon, VA – February 05, 2008 - REI Systems (REI) announced today that it was awarded a contract by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS), Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to complete the development of FEMA’s enterprise grants management system which will support all DHS non-disaster grants. DHS and FEMA manage a variety of non-disaster grant programs using several electronic systems and paper-based approaches. FEMA is seeking to improve the processes and systems it uses to track and distribute billions of dollars in non-disaster grants each year by fully automating the grants management process and consolidating the systems into a single Non-Disaster Grants Management System (ND-Grants).The automation and consolidation of DHS grants is in direct response to Homeland Security Presidential Directive #8 (HSPD-8), which calls for DHS grant reform and consolidation. FEMA intends to accomplish the development and rollout of this DHS-wide enterprise capability in three phases:
The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) became part of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) in March 2003. The primary mission of FEMA is to reduce the loss of life and property and protect the Nation from all hazards, including natural disasters, acts of terrorism, and other man-made disasters, by leading and supporting the Nation in a risk-based, comprehensive emergency management system of preparedness, protection, response, recovery, and mitigation. “REI has built a reputation of delivering the right technology, human resources, and corporate commitment to FEMA during our 7 years of service to the Agency. We are proud of this award and FEMA’s selection of REI to partner with FEMA in assisting states, local and tribal jurisdictions, and regional authorities as they prevent, deter, and respond to hazards through efficient and effective award and management of federal assistance dollars” says Veer Bhartiya, REI Systems President. “The architecture and design for ND-Grants developed in Phase 1 provides a world-class platform for rapidly deploying new applications, reviews, and reports – all essential elements of an enterprise grants management capability. We are committed to providing FEMA with technical and subject matter experts necessary to ensure ND-Grants delivers the expected results in consolidating all DHS non-disaster grants.
